Nonstick cookware and bakeware can produce great cooking results if you make the time and effort to use and care for them properly.
In order to obtain the best results, read and follow the owner's manual that came with your cookware. While you should always check with your product's manufacturer for specific recommendations, you can still follow these general rules for top performance from your nonstick cookware.
- To prevent scuffs and scratches on the nonstick surface/coating on a pan or any nonstick cookware, don't use metal or sharp utensils. Utensils made of wood, plastic or coated materials are the best choices when using nonstick cookware.
- When cooking or baking with non-stick cookware, use low or medium heat to avoid overheating them. Intense heat will damage the finish/coating.
After use - washing and cleaning
- After using your nonstick cookware, allow it to cool completely before washing.
- Once they are cool, soak your nonstick pots and pans in hot, soapy water and wash using a sponge and dish soap to clean them. Though it's tempting to load the pans into the dishwasher, resist the convenience and always wash nonstick cookware by hand.
- Scrub residue food carefully. If stubborn particles won't come off, switch the sponge for a plastic mesh scrubber and try scrubbing with baking soda. Harsh abrasives and rough cleaning pads e.g iron sponge/ metal scourers are not recommended.
- Make sure you get your nonstick cookware completely clean. Anything left on could get baked in during the next use, causing food to stick in the future and ruining your cookware.
- Rinse your pans clean. Use a hand towel to ensure that each piece in your nonstick cookware set is completely dry so it won't dry with water spots or stick to other dishes in your cupboard.
- You may want to purchase a hanging pot rack for safely storing your best nonstick cookware.
- If you have to nest or stack them in a cupboard i.e. store one within another, putting a napkin between the pots prevents them from scratching.
